On a hot July evening, I met Jennie, John, and their two girls for a family session at Marshall Park in Charlotte, NC. As winners of my recent giveaway, they were gifted not only a free session but also a beautiful bouquet from @bloom.flowers.nc to use during the shoot. Jennie, facing a recent breast cancer diagnosis, radiated courage and warmth. She wasn’t focused on the fear or unknown, she was focused on her family, laughter, and making memories.

This session was a giveaway prize, but it quickly became so much more. The bouquet from @bloom.flowers.nc was a hit as the girls clutched it like treasure, twirling and giggling as they admired the blooms. They called me “Miss Erin,” which just melted my heart, along with their innocence and joy.

Marshall Park delivered its usual charm, with its reflective water and city skyline views. But the real stars of the evening were the ducks—Savannah and Carter were obsessed. Chasing ducks turned into the perfect icebreaker, helping us capture natural smiles and candid, joy-filled images.

The Regan’s energy was contagious and lifted my spirits. By the end of the session, I felt more grateful than ever for what I get to do as a family photographer in Charlotte.

This evening reminded me why I pick up my camera. Not every session needs to be perfect—it needs to be real. Jennie’s bravery, John’s fun-loving presence, and their daughters’ lightheartedness brought out the kind of authenticity that speaks louder than words.

If you’re looking for a portrait photographer in Charlotte who believes in capturing the heart behind the photo, I’d be honored to help you tell your story.
